FAQs

Who is Bella?

Bella Lofaso has had her own design business for over 30 years, designing and sewing everything from custom wedding apparel to home furnishings. She fell in love with teaching during her 12 years at Carmel High School. It was there that she saw firsthand the wonderful impact learning to sew had on the lives of so many people of different ages, abilities and interest.

Bella's earliest sewing memory is as a child hunkering down on the footplate of her grandma¹s treadle sewing machine and rocking back and forth. The love of sewing that her grandmother instilled in her at that young age still holds a special place in her heart.

Bella created Bella's Studio with the vision that students want an inspiring, artistic, and helpful learning environment -- a place that feels like you are walking into your own fully equipped studio.

Bella holds a degree in Fashion Design and Business Management and is a Credentialed Fashion and Design instructor. She has lived on the Monterey Peninsula for 40 years and is continually influenced and inspired by its natural beauty.

What kind of supplies does your studio have?

All basic sewing notions will be provided for your use during class. Supplies and materials specific to a class or project will be listed—I will make every effort to have all supplies and materials available for you to purchase at the Studio. If there is something you require for a project let me know and I will try to secure it for you. You can always bring your own personal stash of sewing and craft treasures.

I don’t have a project and I’m not even sure what to make. Can you help me select a project?

Not to worry, my studio is full of inspiration and resources. I will work with you to find an appropriate project for your skill level.

Do you offer private lessons?

Yes. Private lessons are best for students who have never sewn, because the class can be amended to suit each persons ability and skill level. Usually 2 hours of private are enough to get a student comfortable with the sewing machine and ready to tackle their 1st project.

Do you offer classes for children?

Yes. Classes for children are customized for their age and skill level. Initially, private lessons work best when introducing children to sewing. Then depending on their ability and interest, we design a learning plan.

Do you sell or service sewing machines?

This is a question I get asked all the time. While I don’t directly sell machines, I have established an arrangement with Eddie’s Quilting Bee (located in Sunnyvale, Ca) to offer for sale the Baby Lock Sewing Machines I use in the Studio. You can purchase your sewing machine through Eddie’s Quilting Bee, but have it shipped to Bella’s Studio. We unpack your machine together and I show you how your machine operates and make sure you know how to thread it! You have the advantage of purchasing from a reputable dealer, but the convenience of having local support. Call to make an appointment to “test-drive” one of my Baby Lock machines.

Do you sell fabrics, notions or gifts?

Yes, I have a small selection of contemporary fabrics, notions and select handmade items for sale.

Do you sell Gift Certificates?

Yes, Gift Certificates are a wonderful gift and can be customized.

Can a group of my friends come in and sew together?

Absolutely! I can help you plan a sewing activity and have everything ready when the group arrives.

Can I host a private party at your studio?

My studio is the perfect venue to host an event where you want the guest to participate in creating something for themselves or the honoree. Call me to design the perfect project for your gathering of a bride, mother-to-be, child or adult birthday party or just a girls time out!
